Twenty-eight children rushed to hospital after drinking bleach at nursery

Twenty-eight children and two adults have been rushed to nursery after they accidentally drank bleach at a nursery school.

The children and their teachers were hospitalised on Thursday following the incident at the Growing Tree Learning Centre in New Jersey.

It was reported that one of the teachers was preparing water cups for the young nursery class when they accidentally poured from a bottle containing bleach.

Several ambulances were called to the nursery school where they then took the children- all between the ages of 3 and 4- to nearby Jersey City Medical Centre-Barnabas Health for treatment and evaluation.

All those who drank the bleach were released later that day, with most of the children suffering from headaches, nausea and stomach pains.

Doctors stressed that the concentration of bleach was low and that none of the children were at serious risk from ingesting it.

Following the worrying incident, the New Jersey Department of Children and Families have started to investigate the matter.

The incident caused outrage online, with one parent writing: “How do you "accidentally" drink bleach? How do 30 kids do this without one of them saying, "Hey teacher lady, this smells funny?"
