It has been reported that the British death toll from the mass shooting will rise to "at least 30", as more bodies are identified.

Speaking after chairing a meeting of the Government’s emergency Cobra committee this morning, Home Secretary Theresa May said: “The figure for the number of confirmed dead remains at 15, but we should expect that that figure is going to rise.

“The process is a complex one. And it is of course imperative that we get it absolutely right for families, and that can sometimes take time.”

Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said the delay in confirming the official figures was because many were “dressed for the beach, not carrying ID physically on them”.

He added: “There are a significant number of victims who have not been positively identified at this time and it is highly likely that a significant proportion of them will be British.”

At least 38 people were killed when a gunman opened fire in the beach resort of Sousse on Friday, including three Irish people, a Belgian, a Portuguese and one German.

Two of those who were critically injured in the attack are in a coma.

Eyewitness reports have said that Tunisian locals formed a human shield around another hotel, and ‘saved many lives’ in the process.

Following news that a second gunman was still on the loose, updated travel advice from the Foreign Office has warned that further attacks are possible.**
