The remains were discovered as police searched for missing newborn Zaani, whose mother Charlotte Bevan was found dead in the gorge beneath the suspension bridge.

The baby was discovered by a walker who noticed hospital slippers and a baby’s blanket over the cliff.

The authorities have yet to confirm if the remains are those of newborn Zaani.

Charlotte’s mother Rachel Fortune released a statement this afternoon following the discovery.

She said: “My beautiful daughter and grand-daughter are now at peace.

“The family would like to thank all the friends of Pascal, Charlotte and Zaani, some of whom we have only met today.

KELLY ROWLAND LOSES HER MOTHER MONTH AFTER GIVING BIRTH TO SON

Police began searching for Charlotte, 30, after she walked out of Bristol Maternity Hospital with her newborn daughter at 9pm on Tuesday.

It was reported that she had stopped taking her medication for depression so that she could breastfeed her daughter. She also allegedly suffered from schizophrenia and was extremely sleep deprived after giving birth to her daughter last weekend.

Our thoughts are with Charlotte and Zaani’s family at this difficult time.
