Three tourists are thought to be in a stable condition after they were attacked by two suspected terrorists at the Bella Vista beachside hotel in Hurghada, Egypt. The men reportedly waved an ISIS flag as they entered the complex.

Initial reports claimed there was gunfire, but it’s now believed that the attackers were armed with knives and lashed out at tourists eating in an outdoor restaurant. One of the men was wearing a suicide belt.

Egyptian police killed one of the men, reported to be a 21-year-old student from Cairo, and arrested the other. He is now in custody.

The motive behind the attack is not yet known but eyewitnesses claim the men were supporters of IS.

The injured tourists, two Austrians and a Swede, are now in hospital and are recovering. Last night the British Embassy in Cairo were investigating the incident but it’s not thought any Brits were caught up in the attack.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office warn of a “high threat of terrorism” in the country and have advised British citizens not to travel “ to the Sinai Peninsula or areas west of the Nile Valley and Nile Delta.”

“We believe that terrorists continue to plan attacks,” they added. “Attacks targeting foreigners can’t be ruled out.”
