Laura Toone, from Arizona, was taking a walk when one of the foster dogs she was looking after attacked her own dog.
When she attempted to break up the fight, she herself was severely injured, almost having her finger bitten off.
Unable to get help, Laura begged her 4-year-old daughters to call the police. However the youngsters were frozen with fear at the sight of their mother's blood.
At this point, Laura's son Bentley Toone stepped in and used his iPhone knowledge to save the day.
Recalling the scene, Laura explained:
"I begged my daughters to call 911 and they're four and they were quite afraid to even touch the phone because it was covered in my own blood."
"My son came from the kitchen bringing me our dish towel," she said.
"He wiped off the blood himself and proceeded to call my friend on FaceTime."
However young Bentley is already known amongst Laura's friends to be quite the FaceTime prankster, with many now ignoring his calls.
Speaking about the moment Bentley called her, Connie Guerrero said:
"Something inside of me just told me that I needed to answer this FaceTime,.
"All I could see was his little forehead and I said, 'hi, Bentley,' and it was quiet for a little bit and then I hear Laura screaming."
Guerrero then called 911 and Bentley unlocked the door when firefighters arrived. Laura has said she has since taught their three children how to call 911.
