Three people killed as Hurricane Gonzalo hits the UK

Hurricane Gonzalo has already claimed three casualties as it hits Britain.

According to reports, a woman was killed in Kinghtsbridge, London, after being hit by a fallen tree.

A man later died in Essex after a gust of wind caused a van he was repairing to fall from it’s car jack.

HURRICANE TO HIT BRITAIN

In Merseyside, a 63-year-old man was killed after his car hit a bridge during windy conditions early this morning.

Two children have been injured after bricks fell from the roof of their school in West Sussex, whilst three more were injured by a falling tree.

The MET office issued weather warnings late last night and early this morning, predicting strong winds and rainy conditions over much of the UK.

The strongest winds were recorded in Scotland, where gusts reached up to 108 mph.

Commuters have been hit by delays after rail companies were force to delay services and cancel some scheduled journeys.

Heathrow cancelled and delayed 110 flights, leaving 10,000 passengers stranded.

A spokesperson for the airport told passengers: “Please check your flight status with your airline before coming to the airport and leave extra time for your journey to and from the airport.”

Hurricane Gonzalo has swept across the Atlantic from the Caribbean, where it caused one reported death.
