The irons are being recalled, despite being on the market for over a year.

Karen Gives, from Southport in Merseyside, suffered burns and an electric shock when her Russell Hobbs SuperGlide iron caught fire and blew up.

Karen’s husband told The Mirror that he is considering lawyering up and taking legal action against the appliance company, saying: “It's unbelievable that a company of this size didn't recall the irons as soon as they knew about the problem over a year ago.”

Russell Hobbs managing director Tim Wright said in a statement: “I would like to apologise to the people that have been injured by one of these irons.
