It might be Chocolate Week this week, but fans of Terry’s Chocolate Oranges have little to celebrate, as the sweet has been reduced in size by its new owners by 10%, from 175g to 157g. AND it’s still the same price in the shops – around two pounds – as it was last year.
Although the changes came into force earlier this year it only seems to be now we’re getting towards Christmas that people are noticing.
Chocolate lovers aren’t happy, and even set up a Facebook group for those concerned by the reduction in size of the iconic chocolate orange, which was originally launched by Terry’s back in 1932 and has been a staple of the UK households ever since.
The Terry’s name was subsequently acquired by American sweet manufacturer Mondelez, which some people are now accusing of making sneaky changes to Cadbury’s products.
Others are watching to see whether any other popular treats are going to shrink in coming months, with one fan suggesting the next bar to dwindle in size might be the Christmas edition of the Toblerone.
So be careful chocolate manufacturers – we’re watching you this Christmas – don’t be stingy!
