A woman’s body has been discovered after witnesses mistook her remains as Halloween decorations.
The grim discovery was made in Chillicothe, Ohio, where 31-year-old Rebecca Cade’s body was found ‘partially hanging’ on a fence.
The remains were found by builders at around 8.30am and Cade reportedly had suffered from ‘obvious injuries’.
Cause of death is thought to be from a ‘blunt force trauma to the head and neck’. Police also allegedly found a large rock next to her body covered in blood which is thought to be the murder weapon.
Local resident Tammy Dixon told local news: “I thought somebody was playing a prank on the construction workers and I told my daughter it was just a dummy. It was so awful that I thought the prank went too far.”
Family friend Denise Hughes, who is now raising Cade’s child, told Columbus Dispatch: “Rebecca didn’t deserve that, what happened to her. She was always running the streets and always doing the drugs, but she had people who loved her. I hope she knew that.”
A 27-year-old man named Donnie Cochenour has been arrested in connection with Cade’s murder. According to local news, Cochenour revealed to authorities that he had been involved in an ‘altercation’ in the area near to where her remains were discovered.
Such a tragic story. Our thoughts go out to Cade’s friends and family at this difficult time.
