Terrifying video captures moment selfie couple almost hit by lightning

A shocking video has captured the moment a couple were almost struck by lightning whilst taking a selfie

Luis Morales Fukutake revealed that he was vacationing with his girlfriend at the beach in Akumal, Mexico, when a thunderstorm approached.

Speaking with the Daily News, Luis explained that lifeguards asked him to exit the water for safety reasons - but, before rushing back to the hotel, he and his girlfriend decided to stop for a photo.

Settling down on the beach for a snapshot, a bolt of lightning suddenly appears, striking a tree behind them and ruining the romantic vibe the duo had going on.

Luis later said: "My girlfriend and I wanted to take a selfie, so we went to the shore of the (creek) to take it when the thunder struck.

"I remember watching the reflection of it in my GoPro."

The shock of the lightning bolt caused the two to stumble over and drop the camera, but they are both fine.

At least they can say their relationship has some serious sparks, eh?
