She's already winning the battle to stop caged hens, now schoolgirl Lucy Gavaghan is on a mission to ensure they all have happy lives.

When animal lover Lucy discovered the cruel conditions caged hens live in to provide cheap eggs for supermarkets, she was horrified and vowed to help them.

The determined teenager set up an online petition, gaining over 280,000 signatures in five months, convincing both Tesco and Morrisons to agree to stop selling caged hen eggs.

Now, Lucy is continuing her campaign and the tenacious schoolgirl won't stop until inhumane farming is wiped out.

She says: "We'd always bought free range eggs, but I was curious about the conditions caged hens lived in, and was shocked.

"Battery eggs were banned in 2012, but the industry got round it by putting hens in 'enriched cages' - which basically means cages that are only a beer mat bigger than battery cages and have scratching paper on the floor.

"The hens spend 72 weeks there, unable to spread their wings or even see the outside world before being sent for slaughter."
