Big D’s Tattoos in Hedon Road, East Hull, have offered to raise money for Breast Cancer Care UK, as a lot of staff and regulars know someone affected by breast cancer.

Owner David Norton, known as Big D to his friends, told The Hull Daily Mail that he has had lots of enquiries since posting the idea on his Facebook page last week.

David: “When you are tattooing someone, they always tell you the reasons behind what they’ve chosen.

“Every tattoo they get means something to them and is very much part of their life.

“I’ve already done about seven of the pink ribbon ones – two were for a mum and daughter who came in together.”

Each pink ribbon tattoo costs £20 and 100 per cent of the money will go to Breast Cancer Care.

David announced the scheme via Facebook, writing: "come on lets get supporting x Get your ribbon for £20 x 100% is going to the charity [sic]"

And we have a feeling the idea will be popular with many men and women whose lives have been affected by breast cancer.

Just look at all of the people discussing the idea of a pink ribbon tattoo design on Twitter:

Dozens of people have made enquiries about the ribbons and will be offering them until Friday, 18th April, but may extend the deadline if more requests come in.

The shop has a range of about 40 pink ribbon designs, but those wishing to have one done can personalise it with the name of a loved one.

Shop manager Sarah had a pink ribbon inked onto her neck - along with the word 'hope' - in honour of her aunt.

She explained to The Hull Daily Mail: "My auntie has just finished some sessions of radiation therapy. She had it before in the other breast a few years ago, so it is a charity that means a lot to me.

“I chose to have the ribbon and the word ‘hope’ because the ultimate aim is the hope of finding a cure.”
