One lady's anonymous letter to an agony aunt about her wedding day has sent the internet into a rage-filled frenzy
There are certain things you just don't do in life.
You don't leave an empty carton of milk in the fridge.
You certainly don't leave empty sweet wrappers in the box.
And you NEVER. Repeat, NEVER do ANYTHING at all to distract the attention from a bridge and groom on their wedding day - i.e the biggest day of their lives (probably).
It's just not ok, ok?
One woman recently wrote into an agony aunt on Slate about her recent wedding day.
It started off as any normal wedding day does - nothing went wrong, the ceremony was smooth.
But things started to take a very frustrating turn when it came to the speeches.
The title of the letter was: "My husband’s best friend proposed to his girlfriend during our wedding ceremony."
We can already feel the rage bubbling inside of you.
The bride started off by describing her pretty traditional relationship with her now-husband, and that their wedding day was long-awaited by all.
Her husband's best friend, who she has named "John", was the best man and officiant for the service, which "felt moving".
Here's where it gets juicy: "It was so moving in fact, that John stopped mid-ceremony to propose to his longtime girlfriend, "Jane," and reveal her pregnancy."
LITERALLY WHAT.
PROPOSE AND PREGNANCY ANNOUNCEMENT.
MID-CEREMONY.
This is too much.
The bride was understandably livid: "I couldn't even hear the vows my husband wrote or the rest of the ceremony over the noise of Jane's happy sobs, her very surprised family who were also guests, and people seated nearby congratulating her."
Did all the guests just forget whose wedding they were at?!
Seems like the video guy did: "Even the videographer cut to her frequently during the ceremony, and you can’t hear anything over the chatter."
It seemed as though John might apologise: "When John gave his toast, he apologized for being caught up in the moment."
Oh wait: "...And then proceeded to talk about his and Jane's future with nary a mention of us.
"During the reception, John and Jane became the primary focus of our guests. John even went out of his way to ask the band for a special dance for just him and Jane on the dance floor."
We're not sure we can go on. Who DOES this!?
The bride continued: "I've never been an attention hog, and I wouldn't even have minded if he'd proposed after the ceremony, but weeks later I am still seething."
We'd have blimmin' minded! Your wedding day is YOUR DAY. Not John and Jane's day!
The bride ended the letter by asking something which we'd all be asking in that scenario: "I am so shocked and angry that I keep asking myself if this is real life.
"My husband hasn't spoken to John since the wedding, and our mutual friends think what he did was rude but that my husband should just get over it. My husband has joked that he'll resume his friendship when John and Jane give him a $40,000 check for 'their half of the wedding'."
She then asks whether they're angry over nothing.
We're getting wound up just reading about it!
