Self-styled crime fighter Stinson Hunter - who starred in Channel 4's The Paedophile Hunter last year - is well known for speaking to fans online on Twitter and Facebook.

But now, in a new interview, he has revealed that he will be significantly less active on social media this year, after dealing with months of vile abuse.

Speaking with The Coventry Telegraph, Stinson explained that speaking to TOWIE star Maria Fowler and Benefit Street’s “White” Dee Kelly has helped him realise that he doesn't have to continue allowing online bullies to ruin his life.

He explained: “These people are really hurting the people they are targeting.

“One person said they were going to rape my kid - what the hell is that all about?"

Hunter continued: “Just because we’re in the public eye it doesn’t mean it’s ok to hurl vile abuse at us.

“It’s taken me a long time to realise this and think about what I’m going to do about it.”

As a result, Stinson will be spending less time on social media - and more time focusing on making himself and his loved ones happy.

It’s not really a New Year’s resolution,” he said. “I just had a moment when I realised I’m doing so much for everyone else and nothing for myself.

“It’s affecting my relationships and that can’t happen.

“We’re only on this earth for a short while and I want to have a laugh while I’m here.”

However fans needn't despair; Hunter is planning to of more television work in 2015, and plans to unveil a new project in the next few months.
