The primary school boy has been accused of sexual assault against a girl, also aged six, by the girl’s mother. Following the incident, the mother pulled her child out of the primary school and went to the police. However, officers told her they could not take any action as the accused was below the age of criminal responsibility.
The age of criminal responsibility in England is 10 years old – meaning they cannot be arrested or charged with a crime. Lancashire police say the responsibility, for someone to take action, lies with the school and the social services.
Following this, the woman who made the allegations has spoken out and claimed that the lack of action taken by the police have left her feeling “like she was in the wrong.”
She also claimed the alleged assault left her child “feeling very vulnerable” and called for a change in the law due to children becoming “sexualised” at a younger age.
“The way the school has acted makes her feel like she was in the wrong,” she explained.
“You don’t expect to send your child to school and something like this to happen. The police said because he is under 10 there is nothing they can do but I think that’s wrong.”
