The little girl, whose mother as on the phone at the time, can be seen playing by the escalator on the second floor of the Kenanga Wholesale City mall in Pudu, Malaysia.
For a few seconds, the CCTV cameras watch as she runs her fingers along the handrail.
But then, without warning, she is suddenly pulled up and over the side - falling five floors to the basement.
Little Nurhayada Sofia died on impact from her injuries.
We have chosen not to include the footage here, as we believe it to be too disturbing.
The 6-year-old’s father, whom was the one his wife was talking to on the phone at the time of their daughter’s death, has since opened up to the Malaysia Star.
He said: "I called my wife on her mobile phone and asked her where she was.
“She said she had taken the children out shopping with a friend.
"I asked her why she hadn’t told me about it, and asked where she was so I could pick her up. But she said she would take a bus back.”
He continued: "We were still arguing when I heard a commotion and the line was cut.
“Minutes later, my wife called back to say that Nurhayada was dead. I just couldn’t believe it.”
Authorities are investigating the incident, but do not believe that any foul play was involved.
Parents are reminded to always supervise their children on escalators, ensuring they hold the handrail and face in the direction they are moving.
And, once on the steps, be mindful of clothes with strings or straps, as they may get trapped between escalator grooves.
