A father has been arrested after he was caught on camera punching his young son in a supermarket.

23-year-old Justin Whittington was arrested and taken into police custody yesterday after the incident in California.

He was captured on camera approaching the young boy before hitting him in the face. A pregnant woman then takes the boy away by his hand.

He was arrested after the video leaked online. The owner of the shop told Daily News: “That was horrible, man… The worst thing I've ever seen.”

A tattoo artist who works nearby to the supermarket told ABC: “It's terrible. That kid is obviously too young to know what was going on. Honestly, couldn't be more than 3 years old, and I just couldn't imagine anyone doing that to me or me doing that to a child whatsoever.”

Whittington’s bail has been set at $1 million and police are continuing their investigation.
