We all know that sharks are incredible, mysterious creatures. But scientists have recently discovered that these underwater predators can thrive within active volcanos.

New footage has emerged showing hammerhead sharks swimming in conditions that would prove deadly to us land-dwelling humans.

Shark lover and explorer Brennan Phillips discovered the sharks living in the Kavachi volcano near the Solomon islands during a unique expedition.

Brennan made it his mission to film the sharks in the volcano

The volcano spews out hot acid, making it a completely inhospitable environment for humans and other animals.

Sharks, however, are able to swim casually amongst the hot acid without coming to any harm.

He said: "You never know what you're going to find.

"Especially when you are working deep underwater.

"The deeper you go, the stranger it gets.”

Since sharks have been on Earth for millions of years- since before the dinosaurs roamed the planet- it’s not wonder that they are able to survive in such potentially dangerous conditions.
