Pro-surfer Bethany Hamilton has given birth to a baby boy

Bethany Hamilton made headlines in 2003 after her arm was lost in a rare shark attack off the coast of Hawaii.

On track to become a professional surfer, many thought that the then 13-year-old’s dreams were well and truly dashed following the incident.

Determined to prove them wrong after her tragic encounter with the Tiger shark, Bethany set out to learn how to surf again. Within a couple of years she went on to become an NSSA champion in both her native US as well as abroad in Australia.

Bethany broke her happy baby news in February

Not only has she excelled in the surfing world, but Bethany has also found love with husband Adam Dirks.

And NOW the couple have revealed that they have become happy parents to a healthy baby boy!

Bethany, 25, took to her Facebook page to announce the incredible news.

The inspiring athlete wrote: “Blessed to welcome our son, Tobias, into the world. Born June 1st, 7.9 lbs. and 21" Long. He is named after his great grandpa Tobias meaning "The goodness of God." Adam and I so in love with our lil guy and are stoked to share life with him!”

Bethany amazed followers by surfing with her baby bump

The couple announced their pregnancy on YouTube on February 10 where Bethany revealed her anxieties about caring for an infant.

She explained: "I often forget that I have one arm, but when I think about a squirming baby, changing the diaper and just me and this squirmy baby.

“It could be really challenging."

Congratulations to the oh-so inspiring Bethany- we're sure she will make a terrific mum!
