Kim Farry has been shoplifting since she was nine-years-old, and it has helped her enjoy a life of luxury – all while living in a rent-free council house.
But the mum-of-six insists she has no choice, claiming it’s impossible to live on benefits.
Appearing on ITV’s This Morning, Kim said: “Everything in my front room, I have shoplifted the money to pay for. It’s worth £9,000 and I have £6,000 worth of shoes.”
Kim’s ‘method’ is to steal items to return them without receipt, in exchange for a credit note which she then sells on.
Defending her shoplifting, Kim told Phil and Amanda: “I have to do it. On benefits I cannot survive. I go without a lot of things. I couldn’t eat yesterday. I had no money.”
Kim struggled to get a job after coming about of prison and fell back on stealing.
She said: “After going to prison for stealing, I couldn’t get a job. It became my career.”
And Kim reiterated to the Sunday People that she has no regrets. She said: “I’m not ashamed of what I’ve done, I’m proud.
“I was untouchable. I made millions and had the life most normal people can only dream of.
“It really annoys me when people say I’ve never had a job because I worked at my business non-stop for over four decades. It just happens that my business was shoplifting.”
While Kim insists she’s not shoplifting right now, she claims the amount of money she receives in benefits may push her back into it.
She said: “I refuse to believe that anyone can live on the money provided by the Government in benefits.
“I don’t want to but I know that if my TV breaks tomorrow or I can’t pay my phone bill or buy food, I will be back out there shoplifting.”
