In the touching clip, titled ‘If only for a second’, some of the people open up about their battle with the illness and how it has taken over their lives completely.
The purpose of the video was to help them forget, just for a moment, and to make them feel carefree.
The Mimi Foundation, in collaboration with Leo Burnett France, set up the campaign and was it was inspired by the sentence: “You know what I miss most? Being carefree.”
Speaking about her battle, one of the women in the video says: “You constantly live in the fear of an impending threat. It’s always on your mind.”
Another adds: “You immediately stop being carefree when you learn that you’re ill.”
The clip sees the people going to a studio and being told to keep their eyes shut as they are made over.
They are then placed in front of a two-way mirror, and on the other side is a photographer.
A caption in the video says of the photographer: “His role: immortalize a second of carefreeness.”
You are then shown the moving moments when the patients open their eyes and see themselves for the first time.
All of the photographs from the day have been featured in a book, also titled ‘If only for a second’, and you can watch the video below.
