UK nurse Pauline Cafferkey was left fighting for her life after contracting Ebola whilst treating patients in West Africa.

The 39-year-old had returned from Sierra Leone where she was treated Ebola patients. Sadly, she contracted the virus and was hospitalised just days before New Year.

At one point her condition was classed as ‘critical’ and many feared the worst outcome.

Luckily, Pauline pulled through and was discharged from hospital at the start of the weekend.

She said in a statement: “I am just happy to be alive. I still don’t feel 100 per cent, I feel quite weak, but I’m looking forward to going home.

“I want to say a big thank you to the staff who treated me - they were amazing.

“They were always very reassuring and I knew I was in the best hands. They saved my life.

“As I was beginning to recover, I listened to lots of music and that was a massive help.

“I also had lots of Irn-Bru to help me through!”

Something tells us that Pauline might be rewarded with a life time supply of the fizzy drink!
