The baby boy’s body was found lying on the street outside the Hainan Second Nursing College, China, after reportedly being thrown from a window on the 9th floor.
The unnamed mother - said to be a second year student nurse at the college - is said to be aged between 15 and 18-years-old.
She had been attending lessons as normal, and her parents and teachers had no idea that she was pregnant.
The People’s Daily Online have said that she delivered the baby in her dormitory, which she shared with eight other students.
They reportedly slept through the entire ordeal.
She lost a great deal of blood during childbirth and is currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital, where she has been placed under a 24-hour guard.
A spokesman from the college said: “When we found her she was in a critical condition with the placenta still inside her body and she had lost a lot of blood.
“She is now out of the critical stage and is receiving appropriate medical treatment.
“The college is naturally treating this as a very serious incident and have arranged for staff and students to visit the mother.
“We have also arranged for psychologists to give her appropriate support.”
Local law enforcement officials have said that the mother is the only suspect in the incident and will be questioned once she is discharged.
