We all love a meal deal. Especially when it’s just £3 for a sandwich, crisps and drink as Sainsbury's used to offer.

But Sainsbury's have now renamed the deal 'On The Go' and removed subs, pasta pots, cakes and Taste the Difference sandwiches from the selection.

Customers of the supermarket were clearly not happy with the switch up and took to Twitter to vent their anger. One user wrote: “@sainsburys meal deal changes are a disgrace. Lunch times will never be the same again. #outrage #sandwichgate”

Another person commented: “The day they changed the @sainsburys meal deal is worse than all the celebrity deaths of 2016 combined. #MealDeal”

Other Sainsbury’s customers tweeted:

“Planning on boycotting @sainsburys for lunch until they revise their APPALLING new meal deal range #MealDeal”

“What are @sainsburys playing at taking all the nice sandwiches out their meal deal? I’ve been loyal for 3 years but now it’s Tesco time”

“Much bigger news than a nightclub shutting is they have changed the Sainsburys lunch deal. Now that’s a liberty!”

Sainsbury’s have since responded to their customer’s dismay, saying: “We’ve invested in the quality of our salads, sushi and sandwiches, we’ve looked at every ingredient to make our range taste better, look fresher and give customers more choice, whether that’s gluten free or vegetarian lines, or adding new protein pots or porridge.”

They added: “There’s been significant quality investment with new lines and improved originals, we’ve changed the bread for all our sandwiches – it’s much softer and stays fresh for longer!”
