The airline’s proposals outline plans to fly to the US from 14 major European hubs.

The flights will then land at 14 US cities, including New York, Boston and holiday hotspot Miami.

The Irish-based airline saw dramatic growth during the recession with cheap tickets offering Europeans access to some of the continents most popular destinations.

But now the company is wanting to grow even further, extending their services to American customers.

A Ryanair spokesman said: "European consumers want lower cost travel to the USA and the same for Americans coming to Europe.”

They added: “We see it as a logical development in the European market.

"It's dependent on obtaining viable long-haul aircraft and we estimate that’s four to five years away."
