Prince William and Kate Middleton are preparing to welcome their second baby - widely rumoured to be a girl - later this month.

But, while the world waits with baited breath for the royal baby to arrive, plenty of expectant parents are ALSO waiting to welcome their own little little prince or princess, too.

So it makes sense that the Royal Mint has announced it will be giving out special coins to 2,015 babies who share the same birthday as the fourth-in-line to the throne.

The coin will be a silver penny, minted with the current effigy of Her Majesty the Queen and struck with the baby's birth year.

It will come in an extra-special presentation box, all tied up with a VERY regal ribbon.

So why the silver?

Well, an old Scots tradition encourages parents to give a newborn baby a silver coin to bring good luck.

However, if the little mite grasps the coin with an iron fist, that would suggest he or she would grow up to be a miser, if the coin is dropped quickly, you’ve got a shopaholic on your hands.

Hmm - sounds like a theory worth testing.

So, if you wind up welcoming a little lad or lass on the same day as the royal baby’s birthday, be sure to register the birth on Facebook.com/theroyalmint for a chance to be presented with a silver coin.

You will have 60 days following the birth of the second royal baby to apply.
