Duchess Catherine was admitted to the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington - the same hospital where she gave birth to Prince George - on 22 July 2013.

And it was there that she welcomed a beautiful girl, who was delivered at 8.43am.

The first time William and Kate are expected make a public appearance with their little one will be when they emerge from the hospital, but it could take as long as 10 days before the child's name is announced.

The Queen and senior members of the Royal family will have been the first to be told about the birth, along with Kate’s family.

However the royals were quick to inform the nation of the baby’s birth; as was the case with little Prince George’s birth, an announcement was made via an email.

Minutes later, as thousands of well-wishers gathered to watch, a notice was also placed on an easel on the forecourt of Buckingham Palace.

The baby, who is fourth in the line to the throne, will officially be known as HRH Princess of Cambridge.

And, while the baby's due date was never officially made public, it is thought that the little Princess was around a week overdue.

The public will now excitedly await their first glimpse of the little newborn and her delighted parents, who are expected to proudly introduce the baby girl to the world outside of the hospital.

Congratulations once again to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the birth of their beautiful baby girl.
