When you first begin a relationship with someone, it’s often a sign of affection when you and your partner come up with pet names for each other. Whether they’re unusual nicknames that only the two of you will understand, or they’re more commonly used names as a sign of endearment, the monikers given in those first few months can often stick for the duration of the relationship.
But are there any nicknames that women absolutely hate to be called? Apparently, the answer is yes, and those on the list may surprise you.
According to a survey carried out by Kellogs Special K, there are five names that ladies wish would be avoided by their partners.
Unsurprisingly, 60% of women despise being called ‘bird’ by their romantic partners, closely followed by: ‘doll’, ‘chick’, ‘babe’ and ‘queen bee’.
We can definitely see a pattern forming here - maybe it comes down to the fact that women don’t like to be referred to as animals?
The women surveyed also discussed the names that they didn’t like to be called by their friends and co-workers, with 40% disliking ‘honey’ and ‘gorgeous’ because they come across as patronising.
A quarter of the women said that it wasn’t just that they didn’t like these names coming from their male counterparts – they also hated hearing them from other women!
