A new Reddit thread has exposed the latest iPhone’s security issue: a new security bug is crashing phones when they receive the the text message** "effective. Power لُلُصّبُلُلصّبُررً ॣ ॣh ॣ ॣ 冗”**.
Not only does it cause mobile phones to crash, however, but it is also reportedly affecting iPads, watches, and all devices using a version of iOS.
So how does it work?
One Redditor explained: “I can tell you it is due to how the banner notifications process the Unicode text. The banner briefly attempts to present the incoming text and then 'gives up' thus the crash.
“On a jailbroken device, this ultimately leads to safe mode. However, on a stock iOS device, there is no safe mode hence the respring after the crash.
"That is why this only happens when you are not in the message because the banner is what truly crashes the entire system.”
If your phone has been crashed, however, there are a few ways to fix it.
The Apple Byte explain:
-
**Method 1
**Open Notes, and create a new note with any text you like. Tap the Share button in the top-right, and send it to the person whose message contains the “power message”. After it is sent, relaunch Messages, and it will work.
-
**Method 2
**Use Siri to send anything you like to the message that contains the “power message” to clear it from the last line of the message.
They also have a method available on their website for those who received the ‘power message’ from an unknown recipient.
Meanwhile, an Apple spokesperson has said: "We are aware of an iMessage issue caused by a specific series of unicode characters and we will make a fix available in a software update."
REMEMBER: SENDING THE ‘POWER MESSAGE’ COULD ALSO AFFECT / DAMAGE YOUR OWN PHONE, SO IT IS BEST NOT TO DO SO - EVEN AS A PRANK.
