Choosing the name for your little one can be one of the most fun and exciting things to do when you are expecting.
Whether you spend months reading as many baby name books as you can get your hands on, or whether you decide to honour a loved one by using their name, it’s really important to parents that they get it right – some who have a name in mind during pregnancy even change it after the birth because they baby doesn’t ‘suit’ the name!
But according to a poll by Mumsnet, almost a fifth of parents in the UK regret the monikers they’ve chosen for their bundles of joy.
Oh dear!
Maybe they picked them from this list of the worst baby names ever!
The survey asked more than 1,000 parents if they wished they had picked differently, and of those 18% admitted that they would pick a different name if they could, with 2% going so far as to legally change their child’s name.
Over a third of those admitted to regretting their baby’s name within the first six weeks, and the top reasons for the regret is that the name is too commonly used, or it just didn’t ‘feel right’.
Perhaps we need to start reusing some of those old classic Hollywood names!
Popular culture often plays a huge part in the decision, and in recent years celebrity baby names like Harper and Mason have influenced people’s choices.
Even more shockingly, 12% confessed that they regretted their choice of name before the baby was born, stating that they always knew it was the wrong choice.
