Parents are being warned about the live video streaming app Live.me largely used by teenagers as it has been targeted by paedophiles

Police have warned parents about live video streaming app Live.me after paedophiles were found to be exploiting children on it.

The warning has been issued by officers at the Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT) to all the schools in Northamptonshire and passed onto parents to warn them about the app, which is mostly used by teenagers and children.

This comes after an investigation has been launched into a incredibly disturbing video which was found on the site, which works on the basis of a points system and rewards high scorers with money.

The video, which has been viewed over 15,000 times, showed a young child being told to take part in sexual activities.

The letter, written by Detective Sergeant Nickie Deeks, also outlined concerns about the newest Snapchat update, which allows a user's precise location to be shown on a map.

It said: "Snapchat 'hotspots' allow anyone to see snapchats that are set to public – you do not need to have added any of these people to get locations and the update is worldwide.

"Children and young people are vulnerable for a number of reasons to being sexually exploited through the use of the internet and, in particular, social media.

"The internet is an amazing resource and tool but sadly does come with risk."

If you have any concerns about your child, go to the NSPCC website.
