It’s believed they be heading to the war torn country to join ISIS and become ‘jihadi brides’.

Counter terrorism police raised the alarm after the girls went missing from their London homes and flew into Turkey.

Shamima Begum, 15 - possibly travelling under the name of 17-year-old Aklima Begum - and Kadiza Sultana, 16 are pupils along with a third girl, who the police have not named. She is also 15 years old.

It’s reported the three are all close friends and all attended the same school in East London.

They were last seen at 8am on Tuesday. The girls then travelled to Gatwick before catching a flight to Istanbul.

“We are reaching out to the girls using the Turkish media and social media in the hope that Shamima, Kadiza and their friend hear our messages, hear our concerns for their safety and have the courage to return now, back to their families who are so worried about them” said Richard Walton, the Counter Terrorism Command Chief of the Metropolitan Police.”

He added: “We are concerned about the numbers of girls and young women who have or are intending to travel to the part of Syria that is controlled by the terrorist group calling themselves Islamic State,”

“It is an extremely dangerous place and we have seen reports of what life is like for them and how restricted their lives become. It is not uncommon for girls or women to be prevented from being allowed out of their houses or if allowed out, only when accompanied by a guardian. The choice of returning home from Syria is often taken away from those under the control of Islamic State, leaving their families in the UK devastated and with very few options to secure their safe return.”

Shamima is said to be around 5ft 7” tall who has a London accent. She wears black, thick rimmed glasses and was carrying a dark blue cylindrical shape holdall with white straps.

Kadiza was described as 5ft 6” tall. She wears black rimmed glasses and speaks with a London accent. She was last seen wearing a long black jacket and dark red trousers.

The third girl, is also 5ft 6. She also wears black, thick rimmed glasses and was last seen carrying a black night holdall, wearing a fur lined green coat.

The news comes as Tareena Shakil, who fled the UK for Syria with her son, returned to the UK and was arrested at Heathrow airport for terrorism offences.

In a statement, West Midlands Police said: “She's suspected of returning to the UK from Syria via Turkey. It is her activities, while outside the UK, which form the basis of our investigation.”
