It is thought that Megan Huntsman, 39, gave birth to the babies between 1996 and 2006.
"They got more and more shocked each box they opened"
Seven bodies were found by police at the house in Utah, America, hidden inside cardboard boxes. Despite the presence of seven bodies, however, the woman has only been charged on six counts.
Her ex-husband was the one who called the police after finding the body of a baby hidden inside the garage of the property.
Despite being with Megan at the time of the babies' births - and deaths - police have said that they do not think her ex-husband was involved.
Police spokesman Michael Roberts said of the "emotionally draining" investigation: "We don't believe he had any knowledge of the situation."
When asked how the husband could not have known his wife had given birth to seven children, Mr Roberts replied: "That's the million-dollar question. Amazing."
Each of the bodies - one of which is believed to have been stillborn - was found hidden inside a cardboard box. And, as the spokesman for the police has said, they'd never seen anything like it before.
"My personal reaction? Just shocked. Couldn't believe it. The other officers felt the same.
"They got more and more shocked each box they opened."
The bodies have been sent to a medical examiner for testing.
DNA samples taken from Megan Huntsman and her husband will be used to confirm the identity of the parents.
Police captain Michael Roberts declined to comment on a motive and what Huntsman said during an interview with investigators.
