Dr. Michael Salzhauer — aka @therealdrmiami - is a plastic surgeon who knows the power of social media.

He’s amassed a loyal following of nearly 100,000 people who watch his (sometimes EXTREMELY gruesome) operations on Snapchat.

From tummy tucks to boob jobs, liposuction to butt lifts, the doc’s followers get a first-hand look at everything in 10 second instalments.

“This is the reality of plastic surgery...and I want people to see it," he told Vice firmly.

“Social media allows me to express my creativity, to reach out to patients, to connect to them on a human level and not so much the buttoned-up, white-coat, ‘I’m a doctor’ sort of thing.”

Dr. Salzhauer, who has been practicing for 19 years, first joined Snapchat after Instagram took down his account. His teenage daughter suggested the popular app to him, and from there, it’s taken off.

And, in case you were wondering, he always makes sure he asks his patients to sign a consent form before he posts on social media.

You may even be surprised to hear that the gruesome snaps have actually been good for business.

“They say, ‘This guy can do this for me, [he] can make me feel better about my body,’” he told Buzzfeed.

“So they want to wait for me, they’re willing. Which I think is pretty cool.”

The app has apparently helped him go from 15-20 appointments a day to more than 80 appointments daily — and he’s allegedly booked through July 2016.

To critics of his gruesome snaps, he said: “Yes, they are gory, but nobody has to watch it.

“It’s not like it’s being broadcast on TLC or something.”

Dr Salzhauer added: “You have to actually hold your finger on the screen if you want to see it and the people who follow my Snapchat story, they know what’s coming.

“This stuff is not like getting your hair cut.”
