Peaches Geldof ‘failed by friends’: “So many knew, but said nothing”

A family friend of the late Peaches Geldof has claimed that she was 'failed by those around her' who knew she had returned to taking heroin.

An Inquest into her death last week revealed that an overdose on the drug had caused the 25-year-old's death.

Gerry Agar, a friend of Peaches' mother Paula Yates, who died in similar circumstances to her daughter in 2002, has said she tried to confront the troubled TV personality many times.

Speaking to Grazia, Gerry said: "I knew she was in trouble with heroin years ago and I tried to confront her about it.

"So many people around her knew about it but said nothing. But I'd lost her mother and my friend to heroin and I didn't want to lose Peaches."

Gerry claimed the last time she made contact with Peaches was in 2008, when she wrote her a letter begging her to come off the drugs, but she got no reply.

Speaking previously to the Daily Mail about Paula's drug use, Gerry said: "I don't think anyone truly understands what life was like in that family and Peaches got the worst of it. I can't even begging to describe what that poor girl lived through."

Author Gerry said that she hoped Peaches having her sons Astala, two , and one-year-old Phaedra would have encouraged her to stop taking heroin.

The inquest last week revealed that Phaedra was in the house alone with Peaches for up to 15 hours after she died.

Peaches' husband, and father to the boys, Thomas Cohen gave evidence at the inquest and said that he believed she was a heroin addict when she died.
