Parents of suicide teen speak out to help other young people battling depression

The parents of teenager Madison Holleran have spoken out about her tragic death to try and help others battling with depression.

Maddison was just 19 when she committed suicide after battling with depression.

The popular teenager, who was the ‘star’ of the athletics and football team at the University of Pennsylvania, struggled with being away from her family in Allendale, New Jersey.

Before Maddison took her own life, she bought jewellery for her mother, chocolates for her father and gingersnap biscuits for her grandfather.

“Depression can affect anyone, no matter how successful or well loved,” Madison’s father, Jim, who set up the Madison Holleran Foundation, told People Magazine.

“Madison was the happiest kid, you know, when she was happy.

“And if that person would understand what they are doing to their family and their friends and their extended friends, they would not choose suicide if they really understood that they would be gone forever.

“They would not make that choice, but they are not thinking in their right mind.”
