Police have arrested a couple after they were found to have brought their 3-month-old baby on an all-day drinking session in Manchester.
Staff in the bar where the parents had been drinking alerted police at 5.20pm yesterday after growing concerned for the child.
They also reportedly feared for the baby’s safety after sitting in direct sunlight all day.
After bar staff called the NSPCC police tracked the couple down to an apartment where they found more alcohol.
At this point the parents were arrested for caring for a child whilst drunk.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police told the Mirror: “Detectives found the man in a very inebriated state.
“We had to arrest them for being drunk and in charge of a child and take the baby into protection.”
They added that the bar the couple were drinking in continued to serve them boozy drinks despite being concerned for their welfare.
The spokesperson continued: “We won’t name and shame the bar now… But if they were so worried why did they keep serving them?”
Posting on their Twitter page, the police force informed concerned followers that the infant was now safe in the care of it’s grandmother.
GMP wrote: “Male and female have just been arrested following an all day drinking session with a 3-month-old baby, baby now safe with Grandmother.”
The child's parents have not been named and police continue to investigate the incident.
