Passengers were left shaken after a British Airways flight BA49 turned back on itself after having issues with oxygen in the cabin.
The flight took off at 2.15pm at Heathrow and flew up over Scotland. It then circled over the Irish sea before flying back to Heathrow where pilots landed the aircraft safely.
A spokesman for the airline told The Mirror that the flight returned to London due to a technical problem.
It is thought that the plane continued flying to ‘dump fuel’ in order to make landing safer.
The spokesperson said: "The pilot's are trained to deal with this, it's a precautionary measure."
The pilot was reportedly forced to wear an oxygen mask as they tried to address the problem.
A witness told The Mirror:"We were doing fine, then we got to near Carlisle and the captain came on the tannoy and said we'd had a few problems and we were going to have to turn round and go back.
"They didn't say any more. But we could hear the cabin crew talking and it turns out the pilot had to put on the oxygen mask.
"They had lost cabin pressure and they were worried it might spread down the plane.
"None of the other passengers knew but we could hear the cabin crew whispering and we were a bit nervous."
Passengers are now awaiting a replacement flight to Seattle.
