TV personality Linse Kessler, who was debating against him, attempted to rescue the bunny from the DJ, chasing him around the studio, but her efforts were in vain.

Speaking to Radio 4 about the incident later, Juhl explained his actions: ‘I was very humane…I discussed it with people at the zoo before I did it.’

He added that iron sticks are often used to kill animals and that the bicycle pump was the closest thing he had to this.

Juhl added that people are hypocritical about animal welfare because they complain about them being killed but will happily eat meat for dinner.

The rabbit before it was killed

The DJ made a point of the fact that he took the rabbit carcass home to cook and eat after ht incident.

A spokesperson for the radio station said that the rabbit, named Allan, was killed ‘in accordance with very precise instruction…so the rabbit didn’t suffer any harm.’

They added: ‘Our rabbit has had a good life…animals that end up in the meat counter, where most of us without any great reflection, buy slaughtered animals, have had a terrible life.’
