A witness for the defence, Martin gave an incredibly emotional account of the day she discovered her younger cousin had died.

Martin, the Steenkamps and Pistorius have all been in tears this morning as the court heard of the ‘nurturing' and ‘generous’ person Reeva was.

For this first time, it felt as if Reeva’s personality was discussed - how she helped her parents financially, how she worried about others constantly, her hopes for her life - which included romance and children.

Kim has also described the impact Reeva’s death has had on parents June and Barry, who earlier told ITV they are simply ‘surviving’ at the moment.

Barry Steenkamp has had two strokes since the death of his daughter, and almost didn’t make it to the trial for worry of what would happen to him. Kim also added that he told her he would 'lose it' if he had to give a victim impact statement in court.

Martin confessed to now being on medication, and to experiencing high levels of anxiety and depression since the death of her beloved family member.

‘Physically it’s very, very draining’ said Martin.

As this testimony was heard, Pistorius leant forward and put his head against the bench, while other members of the courtroom, including Oscar’s ex girlfriend Sam Taylor, were reduced to tears.

The cousin, who is 12 years older than Reeva, added that she met Pistorius just once when they went out for coffee. She described him as 'shy' at first, who she then realised was a 'very nice person,' although she noted that there was little affection between Reeva and her boyfriend.

Concluding the trial for the day, Kim added that during a brief moment alone with her cousin, Reeva said she was happy but that they 'needed to talk' - a statement which she says she dwells upon to this day.
