The infamous Paralympian, who was jailed in October for shooting dead girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, is serving a five year sentence in South Africa for his crime.

But due to South African law, he could be eligible for parole by August 2015, less than a year after he was put behind bars.

Reeva Steenkamp was killed on Valentine's Day 2013

Pistorius’s solicitor Rohan Kruger said that his client is ‘managing’ in jail, that he is ‘isolated but hanging in there and praying to keep up his strength.’

Reeva Steenkamp’s death made headlines worldwide when she was shot and killed by Pistorius on Valentine’s Day 2013.

Chillingly, the day before Reeva had taken to Twitter to write: 'What do you have up your sleeve for your love tomorrow??? #getexcited #ValentinesDay.'

A year later, and the famous paralympian, who is a double amputee, appeared in court in South Africa to stand trial for the murder of his girlfriend.

He was found not guilty of murder, but guilty of culpable homicide and was sentenced to five years in prison.

But now Pistorius is facing freedom, his solicitor says he is keen to work with children and to undergo an anger management course.

Kruger further defended his client by saying he had turned down a string of film and book deals, despite having no money left after his trial.

However Prosecutors are still campaigning to have Pistorius’s conviction overturned, and upgraded to murder.

If their appeal is successful, Oscar could face 15 years in prison for the crime.
