The 27-year-old runner, who was found guilty of culpable homicide last month, called Jenna Edkins on the evening of his girlfriend’s death.

His ex was saved in his phone under the affectionate name ‘Babyshoes.’

'REEVA WANTED TO SAVE EVERYONE BUT SHE COULDN'T SAVE HERSELF'

South African journalists putting together a book on the Pistorius case uncovered the information, looking at mobile phone data from the day of Reeva’s death.

And although Jenna Edkins was an ex girlfriend of the athlete, she was not questioned by police and did not give them a statement, unlike former flame Samantha Taylor.

On her Twitter page however, Edkins was vocal about the case from the day after the killing, writing one day after the tragedy:

‘People must stop jumping on the bandwagon with such hurtful allegations. Os is the loving, amazing inspirational person we know him to be..’

‘You have all my families love and support #loveandsupportoscar’ she added.

On the same day, Jenna wrote: ‘I would just like to say , I have dated Oscar on off for 5 YEARS, NOT ONCE has he EVER lifted a finger to me , made me fear for my life..’

Oscar is due to be sentenced on October 13, when the judge will decide if he faces jail time of upto 15 years, or a hefty fine.

Reeva Steenkamp died aged 29

Model and budding TV presenter Reeva lost her life aged 29 when Pistorius ‘mistook her for an intruder’ in his bathroom, shooting her through the locked door.

Since her death Barry and June, her parents, have spoken movingly about life without their daughter, with her father even admitting he feels sorry for Pistorius. ‘I would not like to be in his shoes,’ he said through tears.

Meanwhile, Oscar’s family have been rallying round him after his conviction last month. His brother Carl has been especially vocal on Twitter, and came to court to hear the verdict, despite still being in a wheelchair after a serious car accident.

Carl is still recovering following his serious accident

It was thought Carl might lose his life after the crash in August, where he suffered respiratory failure, multiple crush injuries and almost had to have his leg amputated.

He paid tribute to siblings Aimee and Oscar who ‘protected me, loved on me & took major strategic medical decisions’ during his recovery.
