Shockingly, Emily, 15, weighed a staggering 21st - at 5ft 5 she had a BMI of 48.9 (the healthy range is 18-25), putting her at risk of heart disease and diabetes – and struggled to walk even short distances.
Used to gorging on 4,000 calories a day, including three packets of crisps and biscuits, Emily hadn't left the house for three months - except to go to school - because she was too ashamed of her size and was desperate for help.
But, after Closer teamed up withGI Jane Bootcamp to help Emily overhaul her lifestyle, she lost an incredible 2st.
But since we last spoke to Emily, she’s lost more weight, leaving her weight loss at 3st, since starting seven weeks ago.
Amazingly, she’s lost a staggering 24 inches from her waist, and now, she tells Closer she’s never felt so good.
She says: “I’ve lost 3st now – I’m so proud of what I’ve achieved. It’s been tough but the support from the team at GI Jane’s staff and my family and friends has been amazing.
“Before I lost the weight, I hated going out, because I thought people were looking at me, but now, I feel so much more confident. I brought some size 20 leggings last week and they were too big! It was a great feeling – I’ve never felt this good.
“I’m almost in a size 18 now, which will be an amazing milestone for me – nothing can stop me now!”
When Emily first went to the bootcamp, based in Sittingbourne, Kent, she formed a close bond with guest trainer and reality TV star Josie Gibson, who, like Emily, struggled with her weight throughout her childhood, and weighed 18st at just 18.
Josie says: “When Emily arrived at bootcamp, she reminded me of how I looked and felt at her age.
“She struggled to even walk and had no energy. But in just a week, she’s changed so much. Her skin is glowing and she’s smiling all the time.
“We’ll never let her go back to being the way she was – I’m so proud of her.”
The routine Emily follows at the boot camp is stringent – getting up at 5.30am and doing eight hours a day of solid exercise, interspersed with three healthy meals and two snacks such as rice cakes or nuts.
And, when she’s not there, the schoolgirl ensures she keeps her healthy routine up.
She says: “I’ve been keeping up my healthy eating and make sure I fill up on healthy snacks, like grapes, to keep me going at school.
“I've been motivating my mum – we cook healthy meals together and we go on evening walks together 5 times a week. She's lost 2st now and is working on losing more. I'm so proud of her!
'Nothing can stop me now'
“I make sure I ride it my bike and go on regular walks when I’m not at camp to keep my fitness levels up and I'm doing PE again at school. It feels great to be able to join in again.”
Make sure you keep an eye out on Emily's progress, online and in the magazine.
