Aiden Steward, from Texas, told a friend that he could make him disappear - thanks to having the Lord of the Rings ‘Ring of Power’ in his possession.

The fictional ‘One Ring,’ invented by English author Tolkein, allows ‘super-baddie’ Sauron to spread his evil across Middle Earth. Obviously inspired by this fantasy tale, young Aiden told his playmate he would make him vanish with the ring.

But his school deemed his playful statement ‘a threat,’ and have since suspended him.

‘It sounded unbelievable’ said the boy’s father, Jason Steward, adding: ‘he didn’t mean anything by it.’

‘I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend’s existence. If he did, I’m sure he’s bring him right back.’

The Steward family had just watched The Hobbit days before Aiden made the statement, evidently inspiring his imagination as only the best tales can.

‘Kids act out movies that they see. When I watched Superman as a kid, I went outside and tried to fly,’ his father added.

He then wrote in an email to the school: ‘I assure you my son lacks the magical powers necessary to threaten his friend’s existence. If he did, I’m sure he’d bring him right back.’

The principal of Kermit Independent School in Texas declined to comment on the case, though the establishment has already suspended students this year for referring to a classmate as black, and another for bringing in ‘The Big Book of Knowledge’ - which shows an image of a pregnant woman.
