Brittany Maynard, 29, received the devastating news that she had a malignant brain tumour on January 1, 2014.

Although originally given 5 - 10 years to live, by April Maynard was diagnosed with Stage 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme, which would only give her an estimated six months left.

Horrified by the manner in which her disease would take her life, Brittany and her family made the decision to move to Oregon, where she could access its death-with-dignity law, something which her home state of California does not benefit from.

Brittany has now received a prescription for a pill that will end her life peacefully and painlessly when she ingests it, which she plans to do on November 1, the day after her husband's birthday.

‘I will die upstairs in the bedroom I share with my husband, with my mother and my husband and my best friend by my side,’ she said.

Brittany's devastating diagnosis

‘I can’t even explain the amount of relief that it provides me to know that I don’t have to die the way that my brain tumour would take me on its own’ Brittany revealed.

And despite the short time she has left on earth, Brittany is campaigning tirelessly to help Americans in other states have the right to die with dignity too.

‘There is not a cell in my body that is suicidal or that wants to die’ said Brittany, ‘I want to live. I wish there was a cure for my disease but there’s not.’

With this in mind, Brittany believes the only fair option left for her is to use her prescription to slip away painlessly, without enduring the excruciating seizures, headaches and other terrifying symptoms her disease would bring to her before her death.

So far the states of Washington, Montana, Vermont, New Mexico and Oregon allow people to die on their own terms - but Brittany says this is not enough.

She wants all Americans to have the right to choose when to end their life - should the suffering become too much for them.
