Mother Shang Shao, 45, was rushed into hospital after her waters broke just seven months into the pregnancy.
But, as she was rushed to surgery in a wheelchair, tragedy struck.
Unbeknownst to hospital staff, the baby had been born - and fell off Shang's wheelchair, hitting the ground headfirst.
"This is the most traumatic day of our lives"
The newborn was tragically dragged along the floor, still attached to his mum by the umbilical cord, as hospital staff continued to push her along.
After a few moments, nurses noticed a trail of blood - and realised, too late, what had happened.
Speaking with local media, the baby's heartbroken father said: "This is the most traumatic day of our lives."
He is planning to sue the hospital.
Meanwhile a hospital spokesman said: "The baby was taken into intensive care but died soon after of intracranial hematomas, a rupturing of a blood vessel between the skull and the brain.
"The nurses taking the mother have been disciplined as they should not have moved her in a wheelchair.
"They have been demoted and given a warning.
"This was a terrible incident and our hearts go out to the family."
