A group of teenagers have ‘invented’ a condom that reportedly ‘glows’ if it is worn by someone infected with an STI.

They decided to us a thin layer of chemicals on the condom’s surface, which attach to bacteria and viruses found in common- yet potentially dangerous- STIs.

A colour coding system would make it easy for different STI’s to be detected.

Designers of the condom said that the rubber would turn hello for herpes, blue for infections such as syphilis, purple for HPV and green for chlamydia.

Daanyaali Ali, one of the youngsters behind the project, explained: “We wanted to create something that makes detecting harmful STIs safer than ever before, so that people can take immediate action in the privacy of their own homes without the invasive procedures at the doctors.

“We’ve made sure we’re able to give peace of mind to users and make sure people can be even more responsible than ever before.”

The product is not yet available in stores, but the idea has caught the attention of people around the world.
