When you’re expecting a baby, you’re made all too aware of the importance of a healthy, balanced diet along with all the foods that could potentially harm your baby.

But a new ad campaign is targeting mothers AFTER they’ve given birth, highlighting the importance of eating well whilst nursing.

Startling images show babies being breastfed with unhealthy foods such as doughnuts and burgers painted on each woman’s breast, with captions such as: “Your child is what you eat.”

The ad also reads: "Your habits in the first thousand days of gestation can prevent your child from developing serious diseases."

The campaign has been launched by the Brazilian Pediatric Society of Rio Grande in an effort to promote better living for children.

Back in the UK, the NHS advises expectant mothers that eating a healthy diet is vital when it comes to caring for your body- and baby- whilst breastfeeding.

They say: "Adults are advised to eat at least two portions of fish a week as part of a healthy, balanced diet, at least one of which should be oily fish. The same is true for women who are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or breastfeeding.

“You don’t need to eat anything special while you're breastfeeding. But it's a good idea for you, just like everyone else, to eat a healthy diet."
