24-year-old Lauren Patterson had just returned from attending her Grandmother’s funeral in England when she was sexually assaulted before being murdered by ‘casual acquaintance’ Badr Hashim Khamis Abdallah al-Jabr in October last year.
An accomplice helped Lauren’s killer hide her body following her brutal murder.
The killers claimed her death was ‘accidental,’ but they were convicted of her murder and sentenced to death.
Lauren’s mother, Allison Paterson, was in court in Qatar to hear the verdict.
She said after the sentencing that ‘justice had been served.’
In a statement released by the Foreign Office, the 49-year-old wrote: ‘Nothing will ever bring my daughter back.'
‘As a family we will never be able to replace the times we were looking forward to: Lauren getting married, having children - all of those things and more have been taken away from us by these two individuals.’‘Even though this trial is now over, we will never forget Lauren, nor the horrific way she was murdered.'
‘Because of the truly heinous and brutal way in which Badr Hashim Khamis Abdullah Al-Jabar and Muhammad Abdullah Hassan Abdul Aziz tried to dispose of Lauren's body, we were not able to say a final goodbye.’
The grief stricken mother added: ‘This will be etched in my memory till the day I die. Nothing will ever make the pain and grief that we have all suffered go away. It is something none of us will forget.’
Her family set up a fund in her memory to help cover the costs of travelling to Qatar for the trial.
It is not yet known if the convicted killers will appeal their sentences.
The last known execution in Qatar took place in 2003 and was carried out by firing squad.
