Imagine never being invited to a birthday party nor having any friends to invite to your own celebrations.

What would be a nightmare for most children is a hard reality for 11-year-old Roman. Despite pleas from his mother, he was left with no friends to share his birthday with.

His mother, Molly Mole, took to Facebook to share her sadness for her son as his birthday approached.

She wrote: "Sometimes he sits crying asking if he will get a call to invite him to a classmate’s party, and we have to explain that he won’t.

"I have even rung friends up and asked if I can pay the party fee to take Roman along and keep an eye on him – but no, this has not worked either.”

The youngster was soon inundated with birthday messages after his mum described her heartache over his lack of friends.

Messages arrived from from all over the world, including as far as Australia and New Zealand.

Molly told the BBC: “Within 12 hours my post had been shared around the world from friends to their friends and beyond.

"The moment I realised it had gone global was when someone in Uganda messaged me and asked if they could send my son Roman a birthday card.

"It's been amazing, I'm overwhelmed with people's kindness.”
